Vacuum Sintering Process of Silicon Carbide Bulletproof Ceramics
Silicon carbide ceramics have been widely used in various fields of modern industry because of their high hardness, strong impact resistance and good wear resistance. Silicon carbide ballistic-proof ceramics are prepared by reactive sintering process, and the strength of the warhead is much higher than that of the warhead. The warhead is fragmented immediately after impact and its kinetic energy is released rapidly. Experiments show that the protective effect of this kind of ceramics is better than that of alumina ceramics for small arms ammunition and armor piercing projectiles with stable detachment of tail fins, and its price is lower than that of boron carbide ceramics. Tested by the National Center for Quality Supervision and Inspection of Special Protective Garments, the elasticity performance indexes meet the requirements of military standards under the premise of weight loss. The officers and soldiers who participated in the test had a good evaluation through the army’s trial-wear. In 2009, it passed the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements organized by the General Logistics Department, and its anti-elasticity performance is comparable to that of the famous ceramic bullet-proof armor manufacturer in the world. The successful development of silicon carbide ceramic bullet-proof insert board has realized high performance, low cost and lightweight, promoted the application of silicon carbide ceramics in the field of single-soldier bullet-proof, and has great significance for improving the defense capability of single-soldier bullet-proof equipment of the army and the police and enhancing the operational efficiency. Silicon carbide ballistic-proof ceramics can be used not only for individual body armor and helmet, but also for ballistic-proof armor of tanks, armored personnel carriers and other vehicles, as well as for field tents, oil transport vehicles, ships and helicopters. This product won the first prize of military science and technology progress in 2012.
