Mechanism of oil mist formation

This heat is transmitted to the cutting fluid so that its temperature is significantly higher than the saturation temperature. Boiling occurs at the solid-liquid contact surface and steam is generated. This vapor then condenses at the core of small droplets or other particles in the surrounding air, forming an oil mist.
The form of oil mist
Metal cutting processes can produce the following three types of oil fog:
Clean oil mist produced by jet impact, free of solid dust;
Smoke from evaporation or burning caused by heating or the high temperature of high-speed cutting;
Oil mist containing grinding dust produced by injection of metal cutting fluid during grinding.
The particle diameter range of oil mist is also different in different ways. In general, oil mist produced by mechanical atomization mainly exists in droplet form, with a wide range of droplet diameter, usually 2 ~ 10um. During the condensation process, the oil vapor generated by evaporation also forms a condensed suspended float with a very small diameter, usually less than 2um in diameter. Medical studies have shown that oil vapor and large particle droplets are relatively harmless to human lungs. Aerosol droplets in the form of oil vapour are drawn into and exhaled from the lungs, where they are not captured by the alveoli, and large droplets cannot enter the lungs through the nose and bronchi. Only oil mist particles with a diameter of less than 5um in the form of droplet can reach the alveoli and settle in the lungs, causing great harm to the human body.
