Solder for Brazing Cemented Carbide
Used for the connection of tungsten carbide and diamond cutting tools. Adding manganese or nickel (or both) to these solder alloys can improve the wettability and strength of the solder on tungsten carbide.
The alloy can also be made into sandwiches. This “sandwich” consists of two layers of brazing filler metal with a layer of copper in the middle, with a ratio of 1:2:1. This can alleviate the stress increase caused by different thermal expansion coefficients of tungsten carbide and matrix metals. It is mainly used for the connection of tungsten carbide with larger brazing surface (>13mm).
It is used to reduce the stress caused by the difference of thermal expansion rate before cemented carbide and base material when cooling down from brazing temperature. It is also of great benefit to prevent cracking and distortion.
It can effectively reduce the stress of brazing joint and prevent the cracking of cemented carbide.
