Common Steel Materials and Heat Treatment Process For Machine Tool Gears
Machine tool gears can be divided into low-speed and low-load gears, medium-high-speed and medium-load gears, high-speed impact load gears, and large-section gears. The heat treatment processes of gears for different purposes are different. The heat treatment processes of various gears will be introduced one by one below.
1. Gears for low speed and low load. Such as gearbox gears, rack gears, lathe slide gears.
Gear performance requirements. Mainly abrasion resistance, and the strength requirement is not high.
Gear material. 45, 50, 55 steel.
Heat treatment process. Quenching and tempering: 200~250HBW or 240~280HBW; induction hardening: 40~45HRC or 52~56HRC.
2. Gears for medium, high speed and medium load. Such as lathe gearbox gears, drilling machine gearbox gears, grinder gears and gearbox gears, high-speed machine tool feed gearbox gears.
Gear performance requirements. High wear resistance and strength.
Gear material and heat treatment. 40Cr, 42CrMo, 42SiMn steel, induction hardened (along tooth profile) 52~56HRC; 38CrMnAl, 38CrMoAl, 25Cr2MoV steel, nitriding treatment. The depth of infiltration layer is 0.15~0.40mm.
3. High speed, medium load, impact load gear. Such as machine tool gearbox gears, gantry milling machine motor gears, vertical lathe gears.
Gear performance requires high strength, wear resistance and good toughness.
Gear material 20Cr, 20CrMo, 20CrMnTi, 20CrNiMo, 12CrNiH3 steel.
Gear heat treatment process. Carburizing, quenching and low temperature tempering.
4. Large section gears. High hardenability.
Gear material. 35CrMo, 42CrMo, 50Mn2, 60Mn2 steel.
Gear heat treatment process. Tempered.
