Bevel gear ion carburizing process

Material: SCM21 Steel

 

Technical requirements: the depth of the seepage layer is 0.8~1.0mm; the hardness is above 60: the variation of the outer diameter is ≤0.10mm.

SCM21 steel made of 14 kinds of gears with an outer diameter of φ72~φ189mm, in an atmosphere of propane on an ion carburizing furnace, discharge carburizing at 960°C for 35min and diffusion for 85min. The process curve is shown in Figure 1.

The change of the outer diameter of the gear is generally below 0.10mm, and the shrinkage of the inner diameter is 0.05~0.10mm. The change of tooth thickness is only -0.03~ +0.03mm, among which the hardness of the tooth tip, tooth surface and tooth root of the φ150mm gear is above HRC60, the hardness distribution is quite uniform, and the depth of the seepage layer is 0.8~1.0mm, which meets the technical requirements.
