Vacuum Quenching Process of 45 Steel and T10 Steel
Vacuum heat treatment furnace has been widely used in oil and gas quenching of die steel, sintering of magnetic materials and hard alloys, vacuum brazing, annealing of soft magnetic materials, etc. The quenching of low hardenability carbon steel and the solution treatment of stainless steel can also be conducted by vacuum equipment. Through understanding the performance of conventional water-based medium, find out the ideal medium suitable for vacuum water quenching of carbon steel, and select the appropriate medium temperature to formulate the vacuum water quenching process.
Selection of water-based media:
There are many water-based media used for traditional heat treatment, and the media suitable for vacuum quenching should meet the following requirements:
① Cooling transformation requirements for undercooled austenite of carbon steel;
② Wide range of concentration adjustment, convenient for measurement;
③ Stability, no corrosion to equipment;
④ No environmental pollution, no corrosion of product parts, non-toxic, tasteless, and not easy to age.
The commonly used water-soluble quenching media include saturated calcium chloride solution, water glass solution and polyvinyl alcohol solution. These mediums are easy to aging, unstable, and difficult to control the concentration, so they are not suitable for vacuum water quenching.
However, polyalkylene glycol (PAG) water-based medium has the advantages of stable composition and performance, not easy to age, no oil smoke pollution, no odor, easy to control and easy to clean after quenching. It is an ideal water-based quenching medium. It has been tested in some factories and has achieved good results, which basically conforms to the selection principle of air water quenching medium.
JY8-20 is one of these media. The cooling speed of JY8-20 at 600 ℃ is slower than that of tap water and much faster than that of No. 0 diesel. When the concentration is lower than 5%, the cooling speed is close to water, and when the concentration is ≥ 15%, it is close to oil. JY8-20 can adjust the cooling speed by changing the concentration. With the increase of JY8-20 concentration, the cooling rate decreased significantly, and the change was not obvious when the concentration exceeded 15%.
When the medium temperature changes, the cooling rate of JY8-20 with different concentrations also changes. With the increase of liquid temperature, the cooling rate of JY8-20 with different concentrations decreases slightly. Both liquid temperature and concentration affect the cooling rate, but the influence of liquid temperature is small, and the medium concentration plays a decisive role.
Using JY8-20 as the vacuum water quenching medium, the vacuum water quenching process was carried out for 45 steel and T10 steel. The process curve is shown in the figure below.
The quenching process is carried out in the vacuum furnace produced by SIMUWU. Heating and temperature rise (20~60) min, heat preservation (70~120) min, and the suction pressure of the heating chamber 10Pa~66 × 10-1Pa, the cooling chamber is evacuated to 2.6 × Cycle inflation at 10 ° Pa and evacuate for 3 times to dilute residual oxygen. Re inflate and pressurize to 8.7 during quenching × 10 * Pa high-purity nitrogen, while stirring the water-based medium to improve the quenching cooling capacity.
