The solution for your vacuum furnace application
Heating the material under vacuum conditions can have a cleaning and protective effect. This is because contaminants evaporate when heated or thermally decompose in the absence of oxygen. With the help of vacuum, impurities and contaminants separated in this way can be removed from the furnace.
The advantage of vacuum heat treatment is that no costly or flammable gas environment (such as hydrogen or argon) is required to prevent the material from oxidizing during the heating process.
The vacuum furnace consists of a sealed chamber in which the heat treatment process is carried out. The chamber is connected to a vacuum system to remove nitrogen and oxygen to prevent oxidation and contamination of the processed material.
A few tips for vacuum heat treatment:
1.When treating titanium alloys in a vacuum furnace, nitrogen should not be used as a cooling gas, because titanium and nitrogen react at high temperatures to form golden titanium nitride.
2.All the movable joints of the vacuum furnace are sealed with O-rings, and these parts are all cooled by water.
3.When quenching the workpiece under vacuum, vacuum quenching oil should be used, which has a low saturated vapor pressure.
4.The vacuum furnace should be maintained in a vacuum or pure nitrogen state to prevent air and moisture absorption when not in use.
5.Vacuum heating is mainly radiation, and the workpiece should be kept at a distance in the furnace.
6.During the heating process, the workpiece and the materials in the furnace will release gas, which will reduce the vacuum degree.
7.The heating temperature of vacuum tempering, vacuum annealing, vacuum solid solution treatment and vacuum aging is usually the same as the heating temperature during conventional treatment.
8.The vacuum tempering furnace may have a fast cooling device. The pressure of the cooling water is probably greater than 0.2Mpa, and the flow rate should be adjustable.
9.Cooling gas: Steel usually uses 99.995% pure nitrogen, high-temperature alloys use 99.999% nitrogen or argon, and titanium alloys use 99.995% argon.
10.Heating: After the workpiece is placed, it is usually pre-evacuated to 6.67Pa before heating.
Common types of heat treatment in vacuum furnaces include annealing, precipitation hardening, tempering, normalizing and stress relief. Each treatment process is divided into several steps depending on the requirements of the material being treated. These steps include heating and soaking at specific temperatures, and cooling at precise rates, which ensure the desired properties and a bright, contamination-free surface.
Vacuum heat treatment in a vacuum furnace ensures the production of consistently high-quality products, making it ideal for industries such as aerospace, automotive, hospitals and healthcare institutions.
