Metal Ceramic Sintering
In order to make ceramics resistant to high temperature and not easy to break, people add some metal powder to the clay to make ceramics. Metal-base ceramics are prepared by adding oxide powder to metal matrix, which is also called dispersion reinforcing material. The main sintered aluminum (aluminum oxide), sintered beryllium (beryllium – beryllium oxide), TD nickel (nickel – thorium oxide) and so on. A composite consisting of one or more ceramic phases and metallic phases or alloys. In a broad sense, cermet also includes refractory compound alloy, hard alloy and diamond tool material bonded by metal. The ceramic phase of metalloceramics is an oxide or refractory compound with high melting point and high hardness. The metallic phase is mainly a transition element (iron, cobalt, nickel, chromium, tungsten, molybdenum, etc.) and its alloy.
In order to obtain high quality, high performance cermets, the usual sintering methods are vacuum sintering and atmosphere sintering.
Methods commonly used for metal ceramic sintering as follow:
1. Metallize ceramics in the connection part of ceramics, apply a layer of specially prepared paste (generally composed of metal powder such as silver, gold, niobium, palladium and other low-temperature glass powder), sintering at a certain temperature, combine ceramics into a thin layer of metal, and then brazing the metal to be connected;
2. If the metal to be connected has good thermal stability, ceramics can be directly sintered with metal by low-temperature glass powder;
3. It can be pasted with adhesive such as epoxy resin, silicone rubber, acrylic resin, etc.
